This section of our web site is used to show you some live examples of web enabled databases that we have developed.

Various examples will be demonstrated, mainly using ASP.NET and SQL Server (for anything other than low volume sites a client/server database engine, such as SQL Server, is usually a much better option than a file/server database engine such as MS Access).

Most of the example are versions of real systems, simplified in some cases to make them easier to use for casual users. Additionally the underlying data will have been altered to remove personal or sensitive information.

Note that to return to the start page (ie this page) you can use the link (start page) in the upper frame. Alternatively you can use the Back button on your browser.

Horse Darley.
A horse racing / bloodstock database developed for Darley Stud, one of the largest racing studs in the world. It is primarily aimed at providing pedigree and racing results information, both internally and to potential clients of the stud. Probably the easiest to understand area is the 'World Stakes' page which contains race results.

The back-end SQL Server database is about 2Gb in size and includes the details of over 1 million racehorses. The database is fully populated but due to legal restrictions you can only view horse details for horses that have won a race within the past five years.

EIForum
A system showing environmental organisations and companies. It was developed for the Sustainable Business/Environmental Industries Forum at the University of Nottingham Trent. There is only a limited set of data present in this system and some of the links (eg contact us) do not work as this is a subset of the full system which is designed to sit on another server.

Horse

 Reed Elsevier.
An assesment system used to determine what level of trust is granted to a company/organisation. It uses an on-line questionnaire which can also be maintained on-line. Each site fills out a fairly large, multi-section questionnaire with questions being assigned different weights and consequences. Some questions are independent and other link back to the answers given for previous questions/sections. Assessments can also be saved for finishing off at a later date. Once an assessment is completed the company is assigned a provisional security value depending on the responses given. An e-mail is then sent to a security administrator who will review the responses (and can optionally qualify/override them) before allowing the site's security setting to go live. Another admin area allows new assessments to be created, historical assessments to be examined and various reports and summaries to be viewed. This is a secured application. If you wish to view it please contact Aldex.
