System Requirements
SQLMetaTool consists of a .NET client and a central SQL Server database.
Client
The SQLMetaTool client can be installed on Windows versions from Windows XP to
Windows 7, both desktop and server editions and either 32 or 64 bit. It will also run on Windows 2000
although
this is not officially supported.
Note: For Windows 2000 you need to be on Service Pack 3 or later and have
installed Windows Installer 3.0 or later, .NET Frameworks 2.0 and security
update KB835732.
Server
You will need a SQL Server instance on which to install the central SQLMetaTool
database. This can be any edition of SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 or SQL
Server 2008 including SQL Server Express Edition. You can use either the default
instance or a named instance.
The server can be 32 or 64
The SQL Server instance on which this central SQLMetaTool database is located
should be permanently running (or at least running whenever you wish to
interrogate the database and whenever a scan may be undertaken).
For Automated Scans a copy of the Client application needs to be installed
on the same server as the central SQLMetaTool database. The Windows Task Scheduler also
needs to be running on this server. If you are just running Manual Scans then
these prerequisites are not required.
Target databases
The databases to be scanned can be any edition of SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 or SQL
Server 2008.
